Yesterday was a windfall day! Best Dress: Dust Dreams was awarded two prizes at the York Art Award : the Sculpture prize and the Art Prize for the exhibition theme.
I am pleased and my relatives are now trying to get my head back to a reasonable size.
‘Best Dress: Dust Dreams’ is a mixture of painting and assemblage and I hope it suggests a family story over time - one that encourages the viewer to reflect on ghost towns, lost dreams, love and impermanence..and on how we mark our lives through objects. I did not intend to submit the work for sculpture, but was persuaded by the curator that it was a better fit in the sculpture category than in painting. I’m glad I took his advice!
