Just finished this commission for a lovely client.
I enjoyed the quirky quest feel of this work and painting in all those rich darks. Several of the elements included were suggested by the client. The cat (Stella) is his own and ravens are a favourite bird. I suspect this is the first time I’ve painted a cat.
It became an interesting challenge to include elements with a rich symbolism that can be either positive or negative . I wanted the mood of the work not to be too emotionally dark and for the feeling to be of an ambiguous, but not dangerous, journey. Like a chessboard there are dark and light choices and without both there is no game and little interest in the quest.
